Scrappin' in a hotel room

In my last post I mentioned that I was able to scrapbook while on vacation.  This was definitely a first time experience for me and it worked out well.  I thought I would share with you how I did it.

First, I brought my notebook, which is where I wanted to store my 'layouts'.  I've been using this notebook as a journal/smashbook.  I've been writing in it as well as making 'layouts' in it.  I've attached receipts, notes, and such in it just as I would if it were a smashbook.  But anyway, I brought this notebook and my smashbook pen - which has a glue stick on one side and a pen on the other.  This is very helpful on the go, since I did not have to bring any other adhesive and it was all in one pen.
For embellishments, I simply packed a small makeup bag I had.  In my makeup bag I brought the following:
  • washi tape (5 different patterns/colors)
  • black journaling pen
  • mini stapler
  • scissors
Travel light, don't feel the need to bring your entire craft supply.  Since we were going to Disneyland, I knew I would get a map and other memorabilia like receipts from there, so I did not bring any additional designer paper.  As you can see in the picture, I used the map for my title and embellished with the different washi tapes.  This was fun to do while in the hotel room taking a break.  I was able to document in 'real time' what happened and how we felt on that same day.  Plus it was refreshing to be able to do something creative while on vacation.  I will definitely be doing this again on our next vacation.

When I got home I documented more of the last day and an overview of the trip.  I got some Mickey post its from the gift shop.  I used these post its in my journal to add a fun Disney feel to the pages.  Plus I was able to write on them, so it was a fun idea to use these.  These post its I can also use in my album to decorate my layouts of the photos from the trip too.  I would recommend getting some the next time you are in a gift shop.  They are already decorated and themed, they have some sort of adhesive already, and they make great journaling spots and backgrounds.  I'll share more photos of my pages once I get them uploaded.  I hope you are inspired to give scrappin in a hotel room a try.

  1. I only write in a journal when I travel, so these are great ideas. Gotta get me a Smashbook pen!!! I'm sure it was a great trip and everyone had lots of fun. It will be fun for all of you to look back later at your journaling of the occasion.
